I am Dequan Chen, majoring computer science/bioinformatics track in WSU-Rochester. I originally was a Ph.D. scientist in Mayo Clinic and other organizations. At the end of Spring 2010, I got severe acute diabetes which led me to have experienced the ER room, ICU and diabetes room in St. Marry Hospital. This triggered my current career transition from scientific research into computer science that I like - since 10 years ago when I took the MS degree of computer science courses in Louisiana (due to time stringency I didn’t finish the degree).
After discharged from the hospital, I felt that my health is no longer suitable for my previous career track in which my body has to be continuously exposed to harmful biological, chemical and physical factors in various laboratories. After I visited Dr. Lin in our department and consulted with some of my friends working in the IT areas of IBM and Mayo Clinic, I decided to change my career into the track related to computer science. Therefore I enrolled with WSU computer science BS degree program (an excellent program from my experience and my friends). I hope that the present course of CS410/software engineering will let me secure enough knowledge and techniques regarding professional software production process under the excellent teaching of Dr. Eberhard.
